WCCD REPORT 23 - 24

The Working Class Creatives Database (WCCD) has just released its 2023-2024 report, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs of working-class creatives across the UK. This comprehensive report, based on a survey of over 900 members, dives deep into the experiences of working-class individuals in the creative industries, highlighting key areas such as education, post-education challenges, employment, and inclusion.

Key Findings include:

  • The significant barriers in art education, such as financial constraints, lack of connections, and imposter syndrome.

  • The feeling of disconnection and lack of support after completing education, often leading to financial struggles and a lack of industry connections.

  • The need for more inclusive and accessible art spaces, with calls for greater diversity and support within the industry.

The report also outlines WCCD’s goals for 2024, including strengthening mentorship programs, expanding opportunities across the UK, and addressing regional imbalances in arts accessibility. As a volunteer-run organization, WCCD is currently seeking funds to support its running costs and continue providing valuable resources to its community.
