About:

Artist statement 01/24
My name is Sacha Donachie, I am a Glasgow-based artist who is also currently studying sculpture and environmental art at Glasgow’s School of Art.
I am passionate about social issues and like to incorporate themes that include societal hierarchy systems within my work. I strive to always include some kind of symbolism to the class system within anything I create, whether it be material colour or form.
I currently also plan to bring art therapy classes to the communities within working class areas in Glasgow. Something I have been working on for the last few years with a collaboration of creative therapists. we are still in planning stages, with some art classes hoping to be put on within community centres this year. this is a deeply personal and important community project.
I hold strong feminist values, and this is very much part of my identity and who I am as an artist. I am the founder and member of a female art collective which have exhibited in venues within Glasgow . women creating and curating their own art from concept to exhibit . The exhibitions have no restrictions or themes placed on the artists involved.
I work within GSA studios on brief based student work and have my own studio based in the abandoned marks and Spencer’s building in Glasgow city centre. Along with eighty-one other artists we are creating another strong creative community. We are trying to establish an abundance of creativity and collaboration, within its walls we hold exhibitions workshops, film, and audio collaboration as well as vital information sharing, with many more creative opportunities arising.
I am deeply inspired by the natural dying process and seek to capture its beauty and essence through my work. Sustainability is a crucial aspect of my practice, as I strive to create pieces that not only evoke emotion and wonder, but also reinforce our responsibility towards our planet. Using various fabrics and incorporating hammer prints, I aim to establish a harmonious relationship between my creations and their surroundings. Through my art, I hope to spark a conversation about our connection to the environment, to encourage a greater appreciation for the natural world. I hope to create art that is attainable without high monetary expense to the artist. I hope to inspire children from all walks of life, which are made to feel art and creating is a luxury, I hope to show we can still create within a world of poverty and hardships, that art made on a low to no budget basis is possible, meaningful and important. so many great artists have stemmed from places of poverty this should be showcased and discussed more. The improvisation that goes into working with low to no income, acquiring materials, and creating techniques is an artform in itself .
I hope to create.
Hope to create .
