Kirsty McEwan

Discipline:

Visual Artist

Location:

London

ABOUT:

Kirsty McEwan is a collagist who explores how transgenerational women’s stories affect the body, resurfacing what should be hidden through intimate practices in drawing, installation and costume. I examine the macabre in myth, human biology, cinema and social history, and how this connects our bodies intimately to the land and each other. The work reflects the natural cycles of decay, restoration, and abundance.

She studied painting at Turps Art School, is a growing and cooking educator, and has trained in yoga for several years.
Recently she has had solo shows at Backsteinboot Gallery, Berlin and Plum Gallery in Belgium, and been in group shows at Studio Voltaire, Kingsgate Project Space and Koppel Project in London.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
