Multidisciplinary Artist

Location:

ABOUT:

Kid Acne is a multidisciplinary artist and emcee. He has maintained a dynamic career spanning almost 30 years, since emerging as a self-taught, prominent street artist as a teenager. He spent his formative years painting graffiti, self-publishing fanzines, and making experimental hip-hop—all of which are rooted in his working-class background in the East Midlands and continue to inform his current practice.

Through the visual arts medium, he creates paintings, illustrations, and screen-printed editions, characterized by bold typography and recurring motifs, often taking inspiration from traditional folklore and mythology. He also makes large-scale public art pieces, both self-directed and commissioned, blending fantasy tropes with contemporary socio-political commentary and rendered in a deceptively simple and inimitable style.

And he still has acne.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
