About:
Concerned with the ontological status of domestic objects and images, Hazel’s practice analyses style and periodic change from her family’s lineage in inner-city Dublin to her own upbringing. Borrowing from the aesthetics of minimalism and retro-futurism alongside textures and colours from family memory, her work combines the familiar and the strange to create nostalgic uncanny forms. Referencing the stark differences between the world her parents grew up in and the world Hazel grew up in, she explores transmutations of anachronistic household objects taken from memory, family photos and global images to reference technological and economic transformations that define our current environment.
