ABOUT:
My practice operates at the intersection of social research, documentary photography, and artistic expression. As a refugee from the Angolan civil war who arrived in the UK at a young age, themes of displacement, belonging, and identity formation permeate my work. Growing up in working-class South West London has profoundly shaped my creative approach and connection to place.
My Social Sciences background from the University of Roehampton influences how I document human experiences through projects like "WATER," which explores body and self, and "Growing Together," which examines cultural heritage through archival materials and contemporary documentation.
My methodology emphasises genuine engagement with subjects, using medium-format film cameras to create space for authentic moments. Recent work includes "Songs of Love & Loss" (2023), examining romantic relationships through textured visual narratives, and "Ghost Notes" (2025), which combines photography with sound art to document Derby's punk subculture—marking my first exploration of oral histories as a preservation tool.
My practice has expanded to include filmmaking, inspired by charity collaborations where certain narratives benefit from motion work. My photographs have been exhibited at Photo Oxford, the Royal Society of Photographers, and as part of Portrait of Britain.
I increasingly question the need to confine myself to a single medium when different forms—photography, sound, film—allow new dimensions to my work. This multimedia approach enables me to respond more fully to human experience, using whatever medium best serves the story while preserving voices that might otherwise be lost.
