Discipline:

Artist, Sculpture Artist

Location:

London

ABOUT:

Anya Mokhova received her MA at Chelsea College of Art in 2011. For the past 12 years, Anya has balanced her career as an artist with her work as a sculpture tutor in contemporary art. She has attended summer schools such as Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts, Royal College of Art, and Slade School of Fine Art in London. Her exhibitions have included the Jewish Museum in Moscow, Tbilisi Art Fair in Georgia, Shoreditch Arts Club, and Shtager&Shch Gallery in London.

Anya explores natural bases for her objects (tallow, bee’s wax, and soap), classical (gold, brass, and bronze), and contemporary ones (acrylic stone, silicone, and resin). She employs techniques such as incrustation, engraving, and casting, working with both rigid and soft, natural and artificial materials. These aim to create an intriguing visual language that references classical arts and is suggestive of a tactile interaction. Anya’s works explore mystery and fantasy in the mundane through visual, sensual, and imaginative ways of perceiving artist-created objects and spaces.

SUPPORT WORKING CLASS CREATIVES (1).png

'Working Class Creatives' responds to a need which is too often overlooked in the arts; that of the barriers facing working-class artists from getting on in our sector. They are instrumental in initiating much-needed change that will see the art world become more inclusive and reflect the society it purports to serve. I often search their database in my research, it is a vital resource for any arts professional working in culture today. That they have got this far on so little financial resource is remarkable and I am excited to see what they will achieve with further support.” Beth Hughes, Curator, Arts Council Collection.
